Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which counsellor to choose?

It is really important to choose a counsellor who you are comfortable with. It is recommended that you make initial appointments with several counsellors to discuss your situation.

If you come away feeling that you have been listened to and understood, you have a sense that you can be open and honest with the counsellor without feeling judged and you feel safe to share personal information, then this is a good start.

How often do I attend sessions?

It is considered that for therapy to be effective that a regular weekly commitment on the part of both the therapist and client is necessary. This enables a trusting relationship with the therapist to develop. These two elements of trust and commitment can in fact often be central issues in what brings a person to therapy.

Do you have wheelchair access?

Access is difficult for wheelchair users at my primary counselling/supervision location, however, I am able to utilize other premises in the local area where access is easier.

What about holidays and cancellations?

I will make you aware of planned holidays weeks in advance – usually Christmas and Summer.

I do not charge for your planned holidays outside of these times.

I will charge for cancellations without 24 hours notice.

How long does therapy last?

Long term as well as short term, solution focused, goal orientated work is available. However, this is a collaborative process and can be discussed during the initial assessment when we first meet. We will both sign a working agreement, which will be regularly reviewed together.
