Experience

I have worked for the past twelve years providing counselling as well as other psychological interventions within a non-statutory agency alongside statutory drug and alcohol services within the NHS. Here, I worked closely with other multidisciplinary teams such as Community Mental Health, Psychological, Probation and Social Services, with a challenging and complex client group.

Prior to this I spent twenty-three years exemplary service in the military.  It was here that I developed an interest in the effects/impact of trauma. EMDR is one of the two recognised treatments for single event and complex trauma within the NHS, as well as being successful in the treatment of anxiety and phobias.

Personal approach

My approach is Humanistic and my orientation is Person Centred; which means, I focus on a person's unique, personal potential to explore creativity, growth, love and psychological understanding. I believe in the theory that trusts the innate tendency of us all to find fulfillment of these potentials.

This relies on the counsellor and the client creating a particular environment of safety and trust. Such an environment might be achieved in a relationship that is deeply understanding, accepting and genuine.

Being curious about the world, being creative and compassionate invites the client to gain insight and think about things in a different way.
